Limestone, the primary component of these caves, is predominantly composed of calcite—a mineral rich in calcium carbonate. Notably soluble, limestone surrenders to the subtle caress of rainwater, carrying with it traces of carbon dioxide from the air. Over time, this gentle union creates a weak solution known as carbonic acid. Gradually, the relentless action of this water dissolves the limestone, sculpting intricate chambers and passages, ultimately giving birth to these magnificent caves.
